Top 5 Reasons That It’s Great to Live in Nashville
When Nashville is mentioned to anyone the first thing that pops to mind is Country Music and Nashville’s nickname “The Music City”. We’re not even going to put it in this list (sort of). To know why Nashville is so great now and earning its latest title “Now!-ville”- is to know where we’ve been and the parallel history of our Number Five:
Reason Number Five – The Ryman Auditorium: Beginning as the Union Gospel Tabernacle, and located right behind Broadway’s honky-tonks, it’s very often referred to as the “Mother Church of Country Music”. As it should be, having housed the Grand Ole Opry and broadcasting its radio show for over three decades from 1943 until 1974. When the Opry left the Ryman in 1974 (moving on to its new spacious and air-conditioned digs in the Gaylord Opryland complex) the Ryman fell vacant and on hard times. In 1994 it was restored beyond its former grandeur. It has received Pollstar magazine’s prestigious “Theater of the Year” award four times out of 10 years as the best auditorium in the nation to experience live music.
Reason Number Four – Education. One of Nashville’s other nicknames “Athens of the South” was given in the 1850′s as Nashville was the first city to establish a public school system and other institutions of higher education. There are 7 great universities in Nashville: Vanderbilt, Fisk, Tennessee State, American Baptist, Lipscomb and Belmont. Nashville is home to some of the best schools in the country with an abundance of so many private and public colleges and universities.
Reason Number Three – The Culinary Experiences. Brisket, baked beans, mac n cheese, and sweet tea! Now we’re pulling your leg a bit, but you have to admit the ‘Nashville Staples’ are done right, done well, and done just about everywhere. We also must mention Nashville’s own “hot chicken” there’s a good reason we have a Hot Chicken Festival each summer. And somehow it always tastes best when thrown in a paper bag with white bread and pickle slices. Plus the food trucks are a welcome addition to Nashville’s dining options, making their rounds and having something delicious on a gorgeous day in Centennial Park. From great home cooked style meals, to unique independent restaurants, on through to fine-dining, it’s all here in Nashville.
Reason Number Two – Location. Half of the US population lives within 650 miles of Nashville. There are more people within a six hour drive of Nashville than anywhere in the country. With Nashville located in the upper southeast US and three major interstates (24, 40, and 65) and on one major river that runs right through the center of downtown, we’re a necessary intersecting point along many of the east coast trading lanes. Companies and their employees that do business in the Midwest and East Coast are finding Nashville’s locality to be a great place to have their own location.
Reason Number One – Culture. Yes, the music industry is a huge part of Nashville’s culture. Almost every night you can go somewhere in Nashville and experience the most talented singers and songwriters in the country. Nashville’s culture is rounded out by other forms of artistic expression too, such as TPAC and Frist Center. And plenty of Sports and Events, Professional Sport Teams such as the Nashville Predators, Tennessee Titans, and semi-pro Nashville Sounds. And Division One Athletics from Vanderbilt, Lipscomb, Belmont and Tennessee State Universities. Unexpected cultural events like Nashville Fashion Week have enriched our culture.
